Building national trademarks for tra fish and shrimp was the highlight of a conference of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processors and Exporters (VASEP) held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 12.

The EU remained as the largest importer of Vietnamese shrimp, accounting for 18.2% of Vietnam’s total shrimp exports. Shrimp exports to this market in the first three months of this year reached US$134.9 million, up 13.5% over the same period last year. Exports to the three main markets (the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium) recorded the double digit growth. Exports to the Netherlands and Germany increased by 76.3% and 55.3%, respectively, while exports to Belgium grew by 18.9%.

As of today, shrimp imports are now officially covered by the U.S. Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) in accordance with the final rule published in the Federal Register by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on April 24, 2018.
